The Helsinki branch currently employs ten skilled professionals, including experts in sales, robotics engineering, and project management, focusing on European Union defence projects. This presence is set to grow, with the company aiming to expand its Finnish workforce in the coming years.
“Establishing an office in Helsinki is a natural progression for Milrem Robotics as we continue to grow our footprint in Europe,” stated Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics. “Finland’s advanced tech ecosystem and strong defence industry make it an ideal location for us to innovate and collaborate with key partners. We look forward to contributing to the local economy and bringing cutting-edge robotic solutions to the region.”
The new office will focus on program management and research and development initiatives, enhancing Milrem’s capacity to provide state-of-the-art unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and support collaborative defence projects. Milrem Robotics’ flagship UGV, THeMIS, has been deployed with various defence forces across Europe and is widely acknowledged in the field of autonomous warfare systems.
“We plan to significantly expand our Finnish workforce in the coming years, aiming to tap into the country’s rich pool of technological talent,” added Kimmo Laine, Managing Director of Milrem Robotics Finland. The expanded team will contribute to R&D efforts, aiming to create robotic solutions that meet the specific requirements of the Finnish Defence Forces.
Milrem Robotics currently serves robotics programs in 19 countries worldwide, with Sweden and Japan being the latest additions to its user base. The company’s advanced systems are also in active use by Ukrainian forces in their conflict with Russia, demonstrating the effectiveness of Milrem’s autonomous solutions in complex and challenging environments.
With a strong presence in multiple countries, including the United States, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates, Milrem Robotics is known for its innovations like the THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicle, Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle, and MIFIK I, an autonomous functionalities kit. The company has also made strides in the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) with its iMUGS project, developing a modular architecture for hybrid manned-unmanned systems.
Through this expansion, Milrem Robotics aims to enhance its partnerships with Finnish defence institutions and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that align with Finland’s defence needs, further strengthening security collaboration within Europe.
