Siemens Xcelerator provides a comprehensive suite of tools that cover the entire lifecycle of a vessel. These tools span from initial concept and design to simulation, production, commissioning, operation, and maintenance. The integration aims to enhance process quality, optimise operations, reduce costs, and shorten delivery timelines. Navantia’s implementation of this software is expected to establish new benchmarks for efficiency and innovation in the naval industry.
The software suite includes advanced digital solutions such as NX for design, Teamcenter for lifecycle management, Simcenter™ for simulation and optimisation, and Tecnomatix for shipyard processes. Additionally, Siemens plans to integrate its industrial IoT platform, Insights Hub™, in future stages of the project, enabling real-time data collection and further operational improvements.
To ensure the successful adoption of this advanced technology, Navantia engineers and other professionals involved in the project have undergone extensive training. This has been facilitated through Siemens’ Marine Digital Twin programme, a specialised initiative aimed at equipping the workforce with the skills needed to fully leverage digital shipbuilding tools. Training sessions were conducted by the Naval Excellence Centre (Cesena) in Spain, a key partner in fostering innovation within the naval sector.
Looking ahead, Cesena plans to expand its training initiatives by offering courses on the Marine Digital Twin starting in early 2025. These courses will focus on further developing the skills required to implement and manage digital shipbuilding technologies, ensuring the sustainability of innovation across the industry.
