Netherlands delivers first F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, says defence minister

By Defence Industry Europe

During a recent visit to Kharkiv and Kyiv, Dutch Minister of Defence, Ruben Brekelmans, confirmed that the Netherlands has delivered the first F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. This marks the beginning of the transfer of a total of 24 F-16 aircraft promised by the Dutch government as part of its ongoing military support to the country.

The delivery follows the approval of the export license on July 1, paving the way for these aircraft to reach Ukrainian forces. The Netherlands is also providing substantial support for the maintenance and sustainability of these jets. This includes delivering air-to-air missiles from its own stock, a EUR 450 million contribution to ammunition procurement, and EUR 80 million allocated for maintenance contracts and spare parts.

The F-16 delivery forms part of the Netherlands’ broader military assistance to Ukraine, which now totals EUR 3.76 billion. This aid package is designed to support Ukraine’s defence capabilities, including keeping the fighter jets operational and supplying necessary equipment for sustained military efforts.
