The investment builds on a joint prototype effort that delivered a space-based mesh networking solution for the U.S. Department of War. That project focused on accelerating secure and resilient data sharing across low-Earth orbit satellite networks.
Under the new partnership, the companies will develop cryptographic applications designed to protect data at rest, in transit and in use aboard space-based defence platforms. They also plan to jointly invest in specialised cryptographic devices for securing classified information within mission-critical systems.
Northrop Grumman and Aeronix will use modular, open architectures intended to support technology upgrades as cyber and space threats evolve. The companies are also targeting scalable solutions that can be integrated into both existing and next-generation platforms, networks and systems.
The programme combines Northrop Grumman’s cyber, space and defence capabilities with Aeronix’s work in cryptology and secure communications. The stated goal is to increase classified data-processing and transmission performance fivefold while strengthening information protection across military operations.

The companies said the investment will support continuous technology refresh and faster adaptation to emerging threats. Its scope covers secure communications across ground, air, maritime and space-based defence environments.
