OCCAR-EA and Airbus Helicopters sign extension to global support contract for Tiger fleet

By Defence Industry Europe

OCCAR-EA and Airbus Helicopters have signed the second amendment to the Global Support Contract (GSC) for the Tiger helicopter fleet of France, Germany, and Spain. The agreement, valued at approximately €430 million, extends the contract's duration by five years, ensuring sustained support for the participating nations.

The GSC provides vital services, including the supply and repair of helicopter spare parts, obsolescence management, and the maintenance of production and repair lines. These provisions aim to enhance the operational readiness and lifecycle management of the Tiger helicopter fleet.

Significant improvements have been incorporated into the contract based on lessons learned over the past five years. OCCAR-EA highlighted a focus on obsolescence management to increase contractor autonomy, enabling faster and more efficient processes, which is critical as the Tiger MkIII Mid-Life Upgrade approaches.

For France, the agreement includes dedicated maintenance and technical support services by Airbus teams stationed at army sites. This tailored service ensures the availability of spare parts through a service-by-the-hour model, with Airbus Helicopters managing the stock.

“This second amendment marks a significant milestone in supporting the Tiger fleet for the benefit of three nations,” stated OCCAR-EA. The successful extension of the GSC lays the foundation for the long-term sustainment of the Tiger helicopter, ensuring operational capability for years to come.
