The collaboration marks a significant step towards integrating advanced aerial technologies for military applications. Patria’s extensive experience in defence research and development will play a pivotal role in equipping the Thunder Wasp GT with enhanced intelligent features suited for military use.
Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Operations at Patria, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, saying: “Patria’s strong background in research and development provides a good foundation for bringing new intelligent features to drone systems. Patria has wide expertise in developing and integrating the capabilities required for military use into the chosen platforms to achieve the desired performance.”
ACC Innovation, known for its high-performance quadcopter systems, expressed confidence in the collaboration. Max Drougge, CTO of ACC Innovation AB, stated: “We are proud to announce our collaboration with Patria, a partnership that represents a significant step forward in the development and deployment of advanced aerial platforms. Our expertise in high-performance quadcopter systems, combined with Patria’s vast experience in defense innovation, will allow us to explore new frontiers in autonomous and heavy-lift aerial technologies.”
Both companies emphasised the importance of safety, reliability, and mission effectiveness in developing the militarized drone. The Thunder Wasp GT, once militarized, is expected to offer enhanced performance in complex operational environments, particularly relevant for NATO’s evolving defence needs.
Patria has been actively involved in developing technologies for unmanned military operations, especially in challenging arctic conditions typical of the Nordic region. Their approach covers the full spectrum of mission requirements, including planning, navigation in harsh environments, payload management, and communication assurance.
