Plasan signs contract with BAE Systems for Type 26 armour

Plasan has signed a contract with BAE Systems, for the armouring of Type 26 Global Combat Ships for the UK Royal Navy – Batch 2.



Plasan is currently delivering composite armour for the first three frigates as part of the Batch 1 contract.

The new Batch 2 contract includes composite armour for five Type 26 frigates, demonstrating the successful performance of the composite armour delivery to date in providing value for money to the Royal Navy.

The unique installation approach that was demonstrated as part of Batch 1 deliveries will allow simple and cost effective integration for the entire Type 26 fleet of eight.

The new Type 26 ‘Global Combat Ship’ designed and built by BAE Systems is the new class selected for the replacement of eight anti-submarine frigates of the Duke class currently in service with the Royal Navy.
The Type 26 will provide increased capability and flexibility through an innovative design that includes a multi-role mission bay, large flight deck and hangar that will be able to exploit a range of manned and unmanned systems.  There will also be great scope for future development.
