“Cooperation with the Military Institute of Armament Technology is a natural step in the implementation of our long-term strategy. We are joining forces to provide the Polish Armed Forces and our allies with solutions that respond to the challenges of the modern battlefield. For us it is not only a development project, but above all an investment in the future of the Polish defence industry,” emphasised Maciej Borecki, President of the Management Board of PZL Defence.
The Institute described drone technology development as a key priority and highlighted the significance of the new collaboration. “We focus our research and development efforts primarily on securing the needs of the Polish Armed Forces. Our solutions are characterised by interoperability, providing users with an effective tool for achieving their operational goals. Cooperation with PZL Defence is an opportunity to achieve this goal and strengthen the combat potential of our army,” said Colonel Paweł Sweklej, PhD, Eng., Director of the Military Institute of Armament Technology.
The joint project includes integration of components, testing, and technical documentation to prepare systems for market introduction. Until PZL Defence secures the necessary licence to manufacture and sell military or police products, the company will limit activities to work not subject to statutory restrictions while continuing to develop system technologies and structures in compliance with regulations.
The agreement contributes to the wider modernisation of European defence capabilities and the growth of the domestic high-tech sector. With unmanned combat systems seen as a strategic area of military modernisation, the cooperation represents a concrete step towards building national competence in this domain.
PZL Defence S.A., established in July 2025, is a defence-sector company specialising in the development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and anti-drone systems. The company was created on the initiative of the UNIMOT Group, a multi-energy capital group listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange with more than 30 years of experience in building and managing complex infrastructure projects.
The venture also involves PZL Sędziszów, a licensed manufacturer with more than 85 years of tradition in the defence industry, supplying components for military vehicles and helicopters. A Ukrainian partner, which will hold 50 per cent of the company’s shares, will contribute expertise gained under wartime conditions.
PZL Defence is preparing to start production of civilian drones and is in the process of securing licences to enable development in the field of military drones and systems for the protection of critical infrastructure.
