As Defence Industry Europe reported, Poland signed the government-to-government agreement for the AARGM-ER missiles in January this year. The country’s defense procurement agency said at the time that the agreement covers the delivery of more than 200 missiles. A specific number has not been disclosed, but Polish military sources say that Warsaw has ordered 240 AARGM-ER missiles. The deal is valued at approximately $740 million.
However, it is highly possible that Poland’s defense ministry will decide to sign a second agreement for AARGM-ER missiles in the future. Back in April 2024, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that Washington had approved Poland’s request to acquire up to 360 AGM-88G AARGM-ER missiles with additional equipment for $1.2 billion.
The first batch of missiles is to be delivered to Poland in 2029, with the entire contract expected to be fulfilled by 2035. The AARGM-ER missile will be part of the armament of the Polish Air Force, which plans to equip F-35A Husarz fighters with this weapon system intended to strike enemy radars.
Senior Polish military sources told Defence Industry Europe that it is not ruled out that AARGM-ER missiles will also be integrated with the Polish Air Force’s F-16V fleet as part of the Mid-Life Upgrade program. In August, Poland signed a $3.8 billion government-to-government contract with the United States for the upgrade of its F-16C/D jets, with work expected to be concluded by 2038.
