Polish defence manufacturer Nitro-Chem has signed a new long-term contract to supply TNT to the United States, valued at 1.2 billion Polish zlotys (€276 million), making it the company’s largest deal with an American partner to date. The agreement, finalised on Wednesday, will involve delivering 18,000 tonnes of TNT between 2027 and 2029 to U.S.-based Paramount Enterprises International (PEI).

“We are talking about a colossal contract,” said Deputy Minister of National Defence Cezary Tomczyk during the official signing. “It demonstrates the importance of our defence industry in international cooperation.”

The TNT will be used to support U.S. government weapons programmes, including the production of 155-mm artillery shells and aerial bombs. This new agreement surpasses similar deals signed in 2023 and 2024, which covered deliveries planned for 2025 and 2026.

“The value of this deal exceeds that of either of the two earlier ones,” said Jacek Matuszak, spokesperson for PGZ Group, the state-owned conglomerate that owns Nitro-Chem. “The TNT that is now being contracted will be used for the needs of the United States armed forces, including the production of 155-mm ammunition.”

Nitro-Chem confirmed that the company will not need to expand its production facilities or hire additional staff to complete the order. “We are able to fulfil this order with the current workforce and our current infrastructure,” Matuszak added.

The Bydgoszcz-based company is Europe’s largest TNT producer and one of the leading suppliers worldwide, according to its official website. The new contract further strengthens Nitro-Chem’s reputation as a strategic supplier to NATO and international defence partners.

“This contract is further proof of the company’s strong position in the international market,” Nitro-Chem said in a company statement. It noted that this is one of several recent contracts signed with U.S. defence partners, reinforcing the firm’s role in critical global armaments programmes.

Nitro-Chem is also expanding its presence in other foreign markets, including Italy, Spain, France, Sweden, Portugal and the United Kingdom. Its products are exported to nearly every continent, making the company a major player in Poland’s defence export sector.
