Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has introduced the L-SPIKE 1x, a tactical loitering munition designed for company-level deployment and based on an upgraded evolution of the SPIKE Firefly. The system features a coaxial configuration, a fragmentation warhead and the ability to operate in navigation-denied environments including GPS jamming, spoofing and communication disruption.

Rafael said the munition was developed to meet the highest MIL-STD requirements and can maintain performance in harsh weather. “Thanks to these high safety standards,” said an official from RAFAEL, “we can proudly say that this retrievable and reusable munition has, despite intensive operational use, maintained a flawless safety record and not a single safety incident has occurred to date.”

The L-SPIKE 1x provides immediate precision-strike capability for manoeuvring forces, reducing reliance on external air or ground fire support. Rafael describes the system as the “Company Commander’s Army Aviation,” intended to increase lethality, situational awareness and battlefield independence.

The munition forms part of Rafael’s new L-SPIKE Family, developed from four decades of electro-optical expertise and more than twenty years of operational experience with loitering systems. The company noted that much of this experience had remained classified until recent years.
