Rheinmetall and Hologate partner to develop advanced XR simulation solutions

By Defence Industry Europe

Düsseldorf-based defence technology leader Rheinmetall AG has announced a strategic cooperation with Hologate, a global innovator in Extended Reality (XR) solutions. This partnership aims to advance cutting-edge simulation solutions, marking a significant step forward in modern military training capabilities.

The collaboration combines Rheinmetall’s expertise in military training systems with Hologate’s state-of-the-art XR technologies. Together, they plan to create highly realistic and flexible simulation tools to meet the growing complexity of modern training requirements, particularly for military drivers and operators.

“This partnership is an important step for Rheinmetall in further expanding our portfolio of VR/XR training and simulation solutions,” said Hanno Tabeling, Head of System Technology for Driving Simulation at Rheinmetall. “With Hologate’s state-of-the-art software, we will be able to offer our customers even more realistic and flexible training options.”

The first major result of this collaboration is a VR driving simulator designed for training military drivers. Leveraging Hologate’s extensive experience in XR applications for the German armed forces and police, the system aims to deliver immersive, trainer-controlled training scenarios that meet the highest standards.

Hologate’s HGXR SIM platform offers a versatile and mobile simulation solution for a wide range of applications, including helicopters, trucks, and boats. The system’s open architecture and virtual control panels allow users to switch between vehicle models seamlessly, maximising flexibility while reducing costs and resource demands.

Advanced features such as dynamic G-force simulation up to 2g and precise motion tracking technology enable a highly realistic training environment. With a motion range of one metre lift and tilts of up to 30 degrees, the simulator delivers an unparalleled level of immersion, tailored to meet diverse training needs.

Leif Petersen, CEO of Hologate, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “By combining our expertise in XR technologies with Rheinmetall’s extensive know-how, we can develop innovative simulation solutions that set new standards.”

This strategic partnership highlights the commitment of both companies to pushing the boundaries of technological innovation in military training. By addressing current and future challenges, the collaboration aims to deliver customised solutions for military personnel worldwide.
