Stephen Hedger, CEO of American Rheinmetall Defense, said: “The opening of our new Washington, D.C., region office spaces underscores our rapid growth and committed investment in Rheinmetall’s U.S. operations.” He added, “This move reinforces our brand presence, brings us even closer to key government stakeholders, improves our access to a wonderful human resource talent pool in the region, and strengthens our ability to support U.S. defense strategy with speed, innovation, and an enduring commitment to being part of the fabric of the U.S. defense industrial base.”
The long-term leases highlight Rheinmetall’s expanding U.S. footprint and focus on strengthening domestic industrial capacity, engineering capabilities, and its American workforce. The move supports the company’s growing involvement in critical military modernisation programmes, including long-range precision fires, next-generation combat vehicles, and counter-unmanned aerial systems.
Fairfax County officials welcomed the company’s investment, citing its alignment with the region’s strategic priorities in defence and innovation. “We are proud to welcome Rheinmetall to Merrifield in Fairfax County,” said Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Jeffrey C. McKay, who noted the company’s “bold vision and cutting-edge capabilities.”
“This investment will not only strengthen the strategic national security partnerships that are so vital to global progress but also the resiliency of our local and regional economies,” McKay added. Fairfax County is known for its concentration of mission-driven industries and global collaboration in national security and technology sectors.
Rheinmetall’s U.S. presence includes American Rheinmetall Munitions, which specialises in medium- and large-calibre ammunition, fuzing systems, propellants, and vehicle survivability technologies. The company is regarded as a key player in supplying advanced armaments and integrated defence systems to the U.S. military.
Victor Hoskins, President and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, said: “Rheinmetall’s decision to establish significant presence in the Merrifield area of Fairfax County reinforces our position as a premier destination for global defense leaders.” He added, “This investment strengthens not only our local economy but also the broader national security alliances.”
The Merrifield hub will improve the company’s responsiveness and collaboration with defence stakeholders in close proximity to Capitol Hill and the Pentagon. American Rheinmetall Defense also operates across other U.S. locations, including Michigan, Ohio, Maine, and Arkansas.
The new offices are located in Metro Place II, a 250,000-square-foot Class-A facility with extensive amenities, including a tenant-only conference centre, fitness centre, and convenient access to public transit. The building is designed to support secure operations for government and defence contractors.
