Germany extended its framework contract with Rheinmetall in July 2023, lifting its total value to about €4 billion. The agreement runs until the end of 2030 and enables the procurement of several hundred thousand cartridges in the 120 mm x 570 calibre.
Rheinmetall said the order confirms its position as a key supplier of 120 mm ammunition to the German Armed Forces. The company noted that the decision reflects ongoing efforts to rebuild and expand ammunition reserves in light of current security concerns.
The group remains the leading provider of this calibre to many nations operating the Leopard tank and its smoothbore gun. Rheinmetall stated that sustained demand continues to strengthen its role in European defence supply chains.
