The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) have taken a significant step in advancing battlefield capabilities with the acquisition of a new 120mm modular mortar system from Finnish defence company Patria. The pre-series of the mortar system, officially named the Patria TREMOS, is scheduled for delivery to the Finnish Army in 2025, following a swift agreement facilitated by the Finnish Defence Forces’ Logistics Command. On the same day as the acquisition announcement, Patria introduced the new Patria TREMOS mortar system to an international audience at the Future Mortar Systems conference in London on October 29, 2024.

Rheinmetall has successfully completed the development of the latest generation of its enhanced armour-piercing 120mm KE-ammunition to counter state-of-the-art protection technologies. The qualification readiness of the KE2020Neo or eKE (enhanced Kinetic Energy) ammunition has also been proven. As a result, Rheinmetall has been commissioned by the Bundeswehr and the British Army to manufacture qualification samples of the new ammunition. A corresponding official qualification contract was signed in September 2020 by the Federal Office for the Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) and the management of Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH.

Rheinmetall has successfully completed the development of the latest generation of its enhanced armour-piercing 120mm KE-ammunition.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence has announced the acquisition of 20 Mjölner mortar vehicles from Swedish manufacturer BAE Systems Hägglunds. These new 120mm mortar systems will be integrated into the CV90 chasis, enhancing the mobile ground-based fire support capabilities of the Dutch Armed Forces. The first vehicles are expected to be deployed to operational units by 2028. With this purchase, the Netherlands becomes the second country, after Sweden, to integrate this advanced weapons system.
