RUAG sells Leopard 1 tanks to Rheinmetall Landsysteme, closes Italian warehouse

By Defence Industry Europe

Swiss company RUAG has completed the sale of its remaining 25 Leopard 1 tanks from its Italian inventory to Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH. The transaction represents a profitable outcome for RUAG and marks a further step in addressing its legacy commitments, the company said in a press release.

Before the sale, an out-of-court settlement was reached with Global Logistics Support GmbH (GLS), resolving prior claims to the vehicles. Under this settlement, GLS formally renounced its rights to the 25 tanks concerned.

With ownership clarified, Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH was able to exercise its contractual right of first refusal. The transaction was conducted in full compliance with all relevant political and regulatory requirements.

“The economically viable conclusion of the transaction is an important step for RUAG’s future,” said Dr. Jürg Rötheli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RUAG MRO Holding AG. “We have now been able to completely close the warehouse in Italy and thus bring a complex and burdensome chapter to a close.”
