RUAG to enhance Bundeswehr communications with advanced containerised miFAP systems

Swiss defence company RUAG has been commissioned by the German procurement authority BAAINBw to supply containerised miFAP systems for the Bundeswehr.

For over 40 years, the Pilatus PC-7 has been the backbone of military pilot training for the Swiss Air Force. The Swiss Army relies on a fleet of 27 PC-7 aircraft to deliver reliable, precise training for future pilots, a role now strengthened by a new value preservation programme (PC-7 WE) conducted by RUAG in partnership with Pilatus.

Pilatus is handling the conversion of 13 aircraft at its Stans site, while RUAG will modify the remaining 14 at Lodrino.

Lockheed Martin has announced that due to software modification issues, it may deliver up to 50 fewer F-35 fighter jets in 2023 than originally planned. The Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) update is causing the problems, and the Pentagon has declined to accept it until a thorough examination is completed.

RUAG has received pre-approval for the final production of four of the new F-35 fighter jets.

An important milestone has been reached in the U.S. Navy’s ARTEMIS project: RUAG has handed over the first of a total of 22 F-5 jets to Tactical Air Support (Tactical Air). Acting as a subcontractor on behalf of Tactical Air, RUAG is responsible for performing inspections and selected structural work on the F-5 aircraft and for overhauling the engines.

An important milestone has been reached in the U.S. Navy’s ARTEMIS project: RUAG has handed over the first of a total of 22 F-5 jets to Tactical Air Support (Tactical Air).

RUAG will acquire the CyOne Security AG on 1 July 2023, thus significantly expanding its expertise in the field of cryptography. Existing business areas will be retained and are to be developed further. All relevant authorities were involved in the process and were informed.

Switzerland has signed a contract with GDELS-Mowag company for the supply of an additional 16 self-propelled 120mm mortars based on the Piranha IV 8×8 armoured vehicle.

The Swiss Air Force retired the PC-9 fleet at the end of 2022. The DDPS is responsible for liquidating and selling the last three PC-9s by the end of this year. As a long-standing material competence center for the single-engine turboprops, RUAG also plays an im-portant role in the decommissioning. The capacity freed up can be offset by the maintenance, repair and overhaul of other propeller aircraft.

In the 2022 business year, RUAG developed into an independent and holistic security company. The investments required for this purpose had an impact on the business result, but they will ensure economic success in the future. Despite the difficult framework conditions, RUAG was able to fulfill the defined performance mandate completely.

The "Landing Gear Refurbishment Program" achieved all the milestones for multiple F/A-18 jets in 2022. In cooperation with international part-ners in Finland, Australia and the US, RUAG checked, dismantled, re-worked and re-installed the F/A-18 landing gear of its national customer.
