Russian sources reported that an Iskander-M ballistic missile was used in a separate strike the previous evening against the Pavlohrad Mechanical Plant in Dnipropetrovsk region, a key site in Ukraine’s military-industrial complex. According to official Ukrainian sources, the missile “was not intercepted.”
The mobile Sapsan system, also known as Hrim-2 (Grom-2), has been under development since 2006 by the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau in Dnipro, with an estimated range of 500–750 km. Ukrainian forces have attempted to employ the missiles for strikes on targets deep inside Russian territory.
Footage of a Sapsan launch was first shown on 1 January 2025 during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s New Year’s address. In May 2025, his chief of staff Andriy Yermak confirmed the first combat use of the missile.
On 18 June 2025, President Zelenskyy announced the start of serial production of new Sapsan systems, supported by German financial assistance. The latest Russian claims of strikes follow earlier reports of similar attacks in July 2025.
