Swedish defence company Saab has completed the delivery of Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems to the Hungarian Defence Forces, following a contract agreement. The acquisition of these advanced anti-tank systems marks the replacement of the Soviet-era RPG-7 weapons that have been in use by the Hungarian military for decades, Hungarian Ministry of Defence said in a press release.

Hungarian Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky confirmed the successful completion of the procurement under Hungary’s Defence and Force Development Program. The final delivery of HEAT 751 grenades has now fulfilled the full scope of the Carl-Gustaf M4 anti-tank system acquisition.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 is a widely used portable anti-tank weapon system produced by Sweden’s defence industry, with various versions adopted by over 40 countries. Hungary has acquired five different types of grenades for the system, providing versatile targeting capabilities against buildings, enemy forces, and military equipment.

Thanks to its modern sighting equipment, the Carl-Gustaf M4 allows for precise firing in various environmental and operational conditions, including both day and night. It is capable of targeting stationary targets at ranges of up to 1,000 metres and moving targets at up to 400 metres, with the ability to launch smoke and explosive grenades at one kilometre and laser-guided rounds at two kilometres.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 systems are compatible with Hungary’s ongoing military development plans and will enhance the mobility and effectiveness of its armed forces. This acquisition is expected to improve the fire support capabilities of Hungary’s ground troops and strengthen overall defence capabilities.
