Saab expands operations in Gothenburg with new multi-functional facility to meet growing demand

By Defence Industry Europe

Swedish defence company Saab is set to expand its operations in the Gothenburg region by establishing a new facility in Mölnlycke, Härryda municipality. The expansion comes in response to increased demand for radar and sensor systems as well as a high rate of recruitment.

Saab’s Gothenburg site develops and produces advanced airborne and ground-based radar and sensor systems, including the GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft and the Giraffe radar family. The company has previously boosted its production capacity at several locations, including Halmstad in Sweden, Finland, and the United Kingdom.

To meet the growing demand for its innovative technologies, Saab will add new office space and production capacity to its existing facilities. “In order to meet the high demand for our world-leading capabilities, we are expanding our operations in the Gothenburg region with additional office space and production capacity. Gothenburg has a strong cluster of microwave competence as well as universities and other industry. We look forward to continuing to grow and create jobs in the region,” says Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.

The new multifunctional facility in Mölnlycke will accommodate around 500 workstations. Saab plans to retain its current Gothenburg site in Kallebäck, where it employs approximately 3,200 people. The addition of the new facility highlights Saab’s commitment to strengthening its delivery capacity while fostering job creation in the Gothenburg area.

This strategic expansion not only addresses the increasing global demand for Saab’s radar and sensor solutions but also underlines the company’s commitment to enhancing its operational presence in Sweden. As Saab continues to grow, the establishment of the new site is expected to support both local employment and technological innovation in the region.
