The new equipment was intended to ensure the continued operation of Sweden’s Gripen C/D fleet while supporting the delivery and integration of 60 Gripen E aircraft into the Swedish Armed Forces. This step aimed to maintain full availability of the current fleet and secure the long-term operational capabilities of the new aircraft.
“We are very happy to support the Swedish Air Force to safeguard our air domain,” said Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s business area Aeronautics. “This contract ensures full availability of the Gripen C/D fleet and, at the same time, enables Gripen E to be introduced into the Swedish Armed Forces with new equipment, securing its operational life for decades to come.”
This agreement supplemented the original Gripen E contract signed in February 2013. That initial contract had been based on reusing certain equipment from the existing Gripen C/D fleet within the Swedish Armed Forces.
