The agreement moves Sweden’s fighter research effort into its next phase and builds on contracts awarded to Saab in 2024 and 2025. It will support technology development while preserving Sweden’s options for future decisions on its air-combat capabilities.
Saab will conduct work on flying and ground-based demonstrators, advanced studies and future system concepts. The programme will examine technologies for both manned and unmanned aircraft.
The effort covers systems integration, autonomy, signature adaptation, propulsion and digital development. It will also build expertise and prepare production capabilities for future combat-air systems.
Sweden is using the programme to demonstrate technologies before committing to a future fighter configuration. That approach is intended to reduce technical risks and maintain national freedom of action over later procurement choices.
“We are very pleased that FMV continues to show confidence in Saab through this new contract,” said Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s business area Aeronautics. “The work is crucial to further develop and demonstrate new technologies that will be central to future fighter system.”
