Saab secures SEK 880 million order from BAE Systems Hägglunds for advanced CV90 fire control system

By Defence Industry Europe

Swedish defence company Saab has received a new order from BAE Systems Hägglunds for its Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS), a sight and fire control system designed for the Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90). The contract, valued at SEK 880 million (approximately EUR 76 million), was recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

The UTAAS system offers advanced targeting capabilities, enabling high accuracy against a range of threats including ground vehicles, helicopters, and high-speed aircraft. “UTAAS is a versatile sight and fire control system for tanks and combat vehicles. It provides high hit probability against all ground targets, as well as helicopters and high-speed aircraft. This is a much-desired capability by armed forces worldwide,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.

To meet increasing international demand, Saab has partnered with European collaborators to establish local production of the UTAAS system. This approach is aimed at enhancing delivery capacity and reinforcing Saab’s presence in the European defence market.

Designed with modular construction, UTAAS integrates both sighting and fire control functionalities into a single system tailored for the CV90 platform. It supports engagements against both land and aerial targets, contributing to the operational flexibility of modern combat vehicles.
