Swedish defence company Saab has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Polish firm Base Group, reinforcing a long-standing industrial relationship. The agreement marks a new phase in cooperation and directly relates to the Polish Navy’s strategic submarine acquisition programme, Orka.

Saab is offering Poland its latest-generation A26 Blekinge-class submarines and is committed to industrial cooperation involving both production and long-term lifecycle support. To fulfil this, the company is building a network of Polish industry partners, including Base Group.

Base Group has been a Saab supplier since 2017, delivering critical components for the A26 submarines being built at Saab Kockums shipyard in Karlskrona for the Swedish Navy. Under the new agreement, Saab and Base Group will conduct an “in-depth business dialogue to enable the establishment of technological cooperation between the companies”.

The scope of Base Group’s current involvement remains undisclosed due to project sensitivity, but the company provides key welded structures for low-detectability submarines. These components require high precision and strict quality standards, areas in which Base Group specialises.

Saab’s satisfaction with the cooperation is evident from the recent agreement and their decision to expand the partnership to the Polish “Orka” programme. In June, Saab named Base Group its “Supplier of the Year”, an honour reserved for firms delivering exceptionally high-quality products and services.

Saab said the award reflects “aspects such as delivery timeliness, quality of communication, and business flexibility”. This recognition further cements Base Group’s reputation in the defence industry.

Working with Saab has significantly supported Base Group’s development and enhanced its position in the market. The company announced it is building a new facility dedicated to defence manufacturing – the “Factory of the Future” – which will feature advanced production technologies, automation, and digital processes.
