Safran said Land OmniGuard uses stabilised long-range sensors to provide passive surveillance and tracking while on the move. The system is designed to maintain high image quality during operations.
Land OmniGuard integrates VAMPIR NG, PASEO and GEONYX technologies with an embedded artificial intelligence suite. Safran said this creates a passive and seamless chain from detection to neutralisation.
The system is mounted on a land vehicle. It is intended to detect, identify, classify, track and support the neutralisation of drone threats.
The VAMPIR NG sensor provides discreet threat detection. Originally developed for long-range naval surveillance and now enhanced with AI, it can detect potential threats without emitting any signal.
Safran said this provides continuous passive vigilance in hostile environments. The approach is intended to reduce the risk of revealing the system’s position.
Once VAMPIR NG detects a threat, the PASEO system takes over. PASEO uses advanced optronic capabilities and AI-driven image processing to identify and track the target.
Artificial intelligence also supports threat classification. PASEO can then designate the target for a kinetic or electronic response as appropriate.
Safran said automation of these processes significantly reduces operator cognitive load. The company said this enables faster and more effective decision-making in the field.
The GEONYX inertial navigation system is integrated into Land OmniGuard to provide precise, real-time positioning of the system and the target. Safran said it also ensures synchronisation of actions without GNSS signals or in jamming conditions.
Production of GEONYX increased sevenfold between 2022 and 2026. Safran said this reflects the system’s growing importance in demanding environments.
Safran said the technology has already secured a first contract. The customer is described as a globally recognised European leader in air defence.
“With Land OmniGuard, we are reaching a new milestone in protecting deployed forces: our system offers a fully integrated, end-to-end solution, from passive threat detection to neutralization,” said Alexandre Ziegler, Head of the Defense Global Business Unit at Safran Electronics & Defense.
“By combining our critical technologies, Land OmniGuard precisely detects and tracks hostile drones, while guiding neutralization measures—whether kinetic or jamming—in real time, directly to the target,” Ziegler said. “This sovereign, high-performance, and responsive solution effectively addresses the diversity and unpredictability of today’s threats.”
