The acquisition brings aircraft manufacturing expertise and production capacity into the Sensofusion group. Atol Aviation operates from Halli, Finland, at a former Finnish Air Force base.
Atol Aviation has developed the Atol Aurora amphibious aircraft and the Atol Protector aircraft for authority and defence use. The integration is expected to enhance Sensofusion’s ability to deploy airborne detection systems.
Airborne drone detection allows for significantly wider coverage than ground-based systems. Officials said sensors mounted on aircraft can monitor larger areas when terrain and structures do not obstruct signals.
This capability is particularly relevant for wide-area surveillance and dynamic operational environments. The company said it represents a major improvement in detection performance.
Sensofusion plans to begin production of new products at the Atol facility. The company also intends to expand operations and increase hiring.
Additional details on new products are expected to be announced in June 2026. The acquisition is part of Sensofusion’s broader growth strategy in defence technology.
Tuomas Rasila, founder and CEO of Sensofusion, said the company already has experience in airborne operations. “Air-to-ground operations are familiar territory for Sensofusion. Many of our Airfence customers have already installed our products on helicopters, aircraft and drones.”
Rasila said airborne detection is essential for effective spectrum awareness. “Signal dominance cannot happen only from the ground, and radio transmitters are better detected from the air,” he added.
Anssi Rekula, founder and CEO of Atol Aviation, said the acquisition creates operational synergies. “This is a great step forward for Atol Aviation. With Sensofusion, we have genuine synergy in expertise and execution.”
Rekula said both companies share a common engineering approach. “Both companies design and manufacture demanding products in Finland using Finnish engineering expertise,” he added.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction. Officials said the partnership strengthens domestic capabilities in aircraft and defence technology development.
