Slovakia enhances air defence with Terma’s advanced integration solution

By Defence Industry Europe

Slovakia is set to strengthen its air defence capabilities with the integration of Terma’s advanced command-and-control software, BMD-Flex. The Danish defence and aerospace company has been awarded a contract to provide software and system integration for Slovakia’s newly acquired Barak MX Integrated Air Defence System.

The agreement is part of Slovakia’s EUR 554 million investment in six batteries of the Barak MX system, a state-of-the-art air defence solution developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Already adopted by eight countries across four continents, the system is designed to counter a range of airborne threats, including fighter jets, drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic projectiles.

A key component of this integration is Terma’s BMD-Flex software, which is already in use by the Danish Defence for very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) operations. The software will enable real-time coordination of air defence assets, ensuring Slovakia’s system is fully interoperable with NATO’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS).

Terma will oversee the system’s integration, working closely with international partners to align it with NATO’s operational standards. The seamless connection between sensors, battle management systems, and interceptors will create a unified and network-centric defence framework.

Thomas Flarup, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Portfolio Management at Terma, emphasised the importance of NATO compatibility. “We are proud to contribute to Slovakia’s enhanced air defence capabilities by delivering our battle-proven BMD-Flex C2 software and leading the integration efforts,” he said.

The Barak MX system’s modular design and proven effectiveness in multiple countries will significantly enhance Slovakia’s national security. By adopting this advanced solution, Slovakia reinforces its role within NATO’s collective defence strategy while securing a future-proof air defence capability.
