“The Finnish Border Guard has been an outstanding partner, and we are excited to be one step closer to delivering the RAPCON-X capability to Finland,” said Tim Owings, executive vice president of SNC’s Mission Solutions and Technologies business area. He added, “This program milestone comes at a pivotal time in Europe’s increasingly unpredictable security environment and SNC is committed to helping our customers enhance their border and maritime security.”
The Finnish Border Guard uses its fleet for border and sea patrols, maritime emergency response, environmental monitoring and enforcement of Finland’s territorial integrity. The new MVX jets will increase operational range, support multi-mission roles and feature advanced surveillance sensors and technical systems, with a focus on eastern border security.
SNC collaborated with Bombardier and the MVX programme team to speed up the acceptance process and ensure swift operational readiness of the new capability. The first aircraft has completed all factory test flights and received its final livery, with final modifications and integrations now underway in Maryland.
“RAPCON-X is a world-class, multi-role aircraft designed to excel in the demanding operating conditions the Finnish Border Guard faces,” said Josh Walsh, vice president of programmes. “This represents a new era of aviation in the Finnish Border Guard, and SNC is honored to work alongside them to deliver this advanced capability to Finland.”
The MVX programme began in 2019, and the procurement contract was signed in June 2024. The first aircraft, OH-MVX, is expected to be delivered in early 2027, followed by the second, OH-MVY, in 2028.
