Sweden has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply eight Seasnake 30 weapon systems for the Swedish Navy, marking the first order of the system by a NATO member. The systems will serve as the primary armament of the new Combat Boat 90 fast military assault craft, with the initial order under a framework agreement valued at around €63 million and placed in February 2026.

Delivery of the first system is scheduled for February 2028, while the four-year framework agreement also covers airburst and 30 mm calibre training ammunition. Spare parts and services are included, and the contract contains an option for up to 29 additional Seasnake weapon systems.

The Seasnake 30 is a remote-controlled naval light gun designed for close-range defence and integrates daylight cameras, infrared sensors and a laser rangefinder. It features automatic target detection, the ability to track multiple targets simultaneously and a revolver cannon with a nominal maximum rate of fire of 1,100 rounds per minute.

Equipped with integrated airburst capability, the system is described as particularly effective against aerial threats such as drones. Its low silhouette and compact stealth design are intended to reduce detectability by enemy sensors.

Rheinmetall described the Swedish order as an important market success, as it positions the Seasnake 30 with a NATO customer for the first time. The company stated that the decision reflects confidence in the performance and future viability of its naval weapon systems and reinforces its standing as a provider of maritime defence solutions within the alliance.
