During the international defence exhibition DSEI in London, an agreement was signed between Mesko S.A., a company of the Polish Armaments Group, and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). Under the contract, Sweden will acquire Piorun man-portable air defence systems worth approximately 3 billion Swedish kronor.

Sweden expressed interest in the Piorun system in March 2025 through a letter of intent, followed by negotiations in the subsequent months. A preliminary order was placed in June, and the final agreement was concluded at DSEI in September, with deliveries scheduled for 2027.

The Piorun systems will strengthen Sweden’s very short-range air defence capabilities as part of its armed forces modernisation programme. Stockholm’s decision demonstrates that Polish solutions are valued not only in the region but also globally, including by NATO members, with Sweden joining the Alliance in 2024.

“Piorun is an example of a product that combines innovation, reliability and experience gained from the real battlefield,” says Renata Gruszczyńska, President of the Management Board of Mesko S.A. “It is the result of the work of teams of engineers and specialists who have been building Mesko’s position on the international market for years. Today’s agreement confirms that the company is successfully developing as part of the Polish Armaments Group and makes a real contribution to the security of allied states. It is also important proof of the effectiveness of Mesko’s current management board and the result of the support of the Government of the Republic of Poland for the development of the national defence industry,” she adds.

Piorun was developed entirely in Poland and is continuously modernised in cooperation with its users. The system has proved effective in combat, including in Ukraine, and is distinguished by high precision, resistance to interference, and the ability to counter a wide range of targets from aircraft and helicopters to drones and cruise missiles.

The contract with Sweden is another confirmation of Mesko S.A. and the Polish Armaments Group’s growing role in the European market. It also underlines Poland’s position as a reliable and valued partner in security and defence, supporting government efforts to strengthen the national defence industry within the allied security system.
