Sweden has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, including air defence systems worth SEK 1.2 billion (EUR 107 million). The Swedish Government will authorise the Defence Materiel Administration to procure RBS 70 and Tridon Mk2 systems for donation.

In cooperation with international partners, Sweden will also help fund additional air defence systems for Ukraine. This contribution forms part of Sweden’s 18th military support package, reinforcing Ukraine’s ability to defend its airspace.

“This strengthens Ukraine’s air defence capability and will be a significant addition to Ukraine’s armed forces. It also gives Ukraine the opportunity to test new Swedish defence capabilities on the battlefield,” says Minister for Defence Pål Jonson.

Sweden remains committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary. The latest military aid package in January was Sweden’s largest to date, valued at SEK 13.5 billion (€1.2 billion), and included SEK 5.9 billion (€526 million) worth of defence equipment.

The RBS 70 system, produced by Saab, has been in use in Sweden and other nations for nearly 50 years. The Tridon Mk2, developed by BAE Systems Bofors, is a modernised version of the Bofors 40mm gun, which has been deployed globally for over 90 years.

For the first time, the Tridon Mk2 will be deployed in Ukraine’s battlefield, capable of countering drones, cruise missiles, aircraft, and armoured vehicles. Sweden will also supply Ukraine with surface-to-air missiles and portable anti-aircraft missiles in collaboration with allies.
