Switzerland had placed an order for five Patriot systems in 2022, with delivery initially planned to begin in 2026 and conclude by 2028. On 16 July 2025, however, the US informed the DDPS that Switzerland would be affected by this new delivery schedule.
The Federal Council was officially notified of the development on 18 July, the Swiss government confirmed in a public announcement. The delay is in line with standard Foreign Military Sales procedures, under which Switzerland will now receive later production batches.
It remains unclear how many of the five systems will be delayed or whether the delivery of accompanying guided missiles will also be impacted. “No statement can be made at this stage regarding the exact timing and any further implications for Switzerland,” the government said, noting that clarifications are ongoing.
This is not the first such postponement. In 2024, the U.S. had already notified Switzerland that the PAC-3 MSE guided missiles—approved by the Swiss Parliament after the original order—would arrive later than planned, also due to support efforts for Ukraine.
