In the night between 17 to 18 September 2024 at 00:50 am (Brussels time), two new Galileo satellites were successfully placed in orbit.

Europe's new heavy-lift rocket, Ariane 6, made its inaugural flight from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana at 16:00 local time on 9 July (+4 20:00 time BST, +5 21:00 time CEST).

Ariane 6 is the latest in Europe’s Ariane rocket series, taking over from Ariane 5, and featuring a modular and versatile design that can launch missions from low-Earth orbit and farther out into deep space.

In the first quarter of 2024, the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation successfully completed a series of tests of the engine that belongs to the category of the largest subsystems in satellite propulsion. The development of this engine is carried out as part of the GRACE project, financed by the Polish contribution to the European Space Agency.

In the first quarter of 2024, the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation successfully completed a series of tests of the engine that belongs to the category of the largest subsystems in satellite propulsion.

The view from space is crucial for observing our blue planet even more closely to obtain more precise data for tackling climate change as well as for monitoring and mapping the Earth's surface. Therefore, work is already underway to develop the next generation of Sentinel-2 satellites for the European Earth observation programme Copernicus. The OHB System AG, a subsidiary of the space and technology group OHB SE, has been contracted by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the mission and system definition of the Next Generation Sentinel-2 mission, and to prepare the following implementation phase. Two parallel contracts of a volume of six million euros each and a nominal duration of 2.5 years have been awarded by ESA for this so-called definition phase.

On 30 November 2023, after years of delays and unfortunate circumstances, ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher finally announced that the rocket’s first flight will take place in the summer of 2024. Ariane 6 is designed to carry into orbit payloads commissioned by private contractors, national governments, ESA member states and the European Union Space Programme (EUSPA). It aims to replace the recently retired Ariane 5 rocket, which was entrusted with the delivery of Europe’s heaviest and most advanced payloads during its 117-flights-long career from 1996 to 2023.
