On April 26-27, Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart, Commander Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE), visited Estonia. The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) has signed a contract with the Finnish company Sako for the procurement of new 8.6 mm sniper rifles for the Estonian Defence Forces and Defence League. The new rifles are an improvement on the previously used sniper rifles, being more accurate and more stable in shooting characteristics than the old model. The total value of the framework agreement for the next seven years is 40 million euros.

New 8.6 mm calibre sniper rifles were tested at the Sirgala training ground with the participation of several multinational companies and their top shooters. The Estonian Centre for Defence Investment (ECDI) has announced a tender for the procurement of sniper rifles for the Estonian Defence Forces and the Defence League, with test firings carried out to assess the technical suitability of the weapons for the tender. The winner of the arms tender will be announced this spring.
