By Defence Industry Europe

Rabasaare urban warfare training facility elevates Estonian Defense Forces' training capabilities to a new level. The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) inaugurated the modern urban combat training facility near EDF's central training area.

The new facility, designed to simulate urban environments, offers versatile training opportunities for military personnel to prepare for national defence. The completion of the state-of-the-art urban warfare training facility will significantly enhance the Estonian Defence Forces’ urban combat skills.

The facility includes various buildings equipped with elements essential for urban warfare training. Additionally, seven multi-storey buildings, a bridge connecting the central polygon to Rabasaare, and an extensive road network in Rabasaare village have been constructed.

The design and construction contract, with a total value of EUR 4.8 million, was awarded to YIT Eesti. The architectural design was carried out by Projektibüroo.

The urban warfare training facility allows units to practice techniques such as rappelling from buildings, breaching walls, and resolving other combat situations. All buildings have movable walls, enabling the creation of different training scenarios.

Despite the complex terrain and various weather conditions experienced throughout the four seasons, the project utilized innovative technologies to further strengthen the defence of Estonia.
