Fincantieri Marinette Marine to build two additional frigates for U.S. Navy

Fincantieri Marinette Marine was awarded a contract valued at a billion dollars (USD) to build two additional Constellation-class Frigates.

EDGE and Fincantieri have signed an agreement today formalising the launch of MAESTRAL an Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilding Joint Venture (JV) between both companies. The JV, which was first announced in February of this year, will capitalise on global opportunities for the design and manufacture of advanced naval vessels. EDGE holds a 51% stake in the venture, which will be awarded prime rights to non-NATO orders, and a number of strategic orders placed by selected NATO member countries, with a commercial pipelineThe signing of the agreement was immediately followed by the announcement of a large order by UAE Coast Guard Forces for 10 technologically advanced 51m Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), valued at 400 million euro.

EDGE and Fincantieri have signed an agreement today formalising the launch of MAESTRAL an Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilding Joint Venture (JV) between both companies.

Fincantieri and Leonardo are strengthening their collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the underwater domain, with the aim of pooling their respective expertise and capabilities in the sector. The initiative also stems from the imminent establishment of the National Underwater Hub (Polo nazionale della Subacquea), the Italian center which will enhance research and innovation in the underwater environment, to ensure its safety and promote industrial and economic opportunities.

Leonardo announced the signing of a definitive agreement to sell its Underwater Armaments Systems (UAS) business line to Fincantieri.

Fincantieri and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence have signed a EUR 1.18 billion contract, within the framework of collaborative relations initiated by the Italian Ministry of Defence, for the supply of two PPA units. PPA is a highly flexible ship with an outstanding technological standard. It has the capacity to serve multiple functions, ranging from patrol with sea rescue capacity to Civil Protection operations and first line fighting vessel.

The launching ceremony of the Spartaco Schergat frigate, the ninth of a series of 10 FREMM vessels – Multi Mission European Frigates, took place on November 24 at the integrated shipyard of Riva Trigoso (Genoa). The 10 FREMM vessels have been commissioned to Fincantieri by the Italian Navy within the framework of an Italo-French international cooperation program, under the coordination of OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement), the joint organization for European cooperation in armaments.

Fincantieri has signed with the Armament Authority formally representing the Ministry of defense of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, a 10-year contract related to two FREMM vessels of In-Service Support and Integrated Logistic Support, i.e., preventive maintenance services, logistic studies and corrective maintenance on demand, with a value of about EUR 260 million.

The total value of the contract includes the portion that will be allocated to Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN) – the joint venture owned by Fincantieri and Leonardo with stakes of 51% and 49%, respectively – as a sub-supplier.

On November 16, the leadership of the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine met with an Italian delegation headed by Lieutenant General Luciano Portolano, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Italian Republic. The delegation included representatives of major Italian enterprises producing a wide range of weapons, military equipment and defence systems, as well as Italian Ambassador Pier Francesco Zazo and members of the diplomatic corps.
