The contract was signed by the Director of OCCAR-EA and Fulvio Palermo, Head of Project Management of Fincantieri’s Naval Vessels Division. Palermo signed on behalf of a temporary consortium formed by Fincantieri and Leonardo.
The agreement covers the adaptation of vessels currently in “Light” and “Light Plus” configurations. These ships will be upgraded to the more advanced Full Combat System configuration.
The work will also include the integration of advanced cyber defence capabilities. Fincantieri’s share of the contract is valued at approximately €62 million.
The upgrade programme will apply to both vessels already delivered and those still under construction or outfitting. The aim is to standardise the entire PPA fleet to the highest operational configuration.
The PPA programme is designed around a flexible “fitted for” approach. This allows the gradual integration of capabilities as operational requirements evolve.
The vessels are capable of performing a wide range of missions, from patrol and search and rescue to full combat operations. Their scalable combat system enables a transition from lighter configurations to a fully equipped combat platform.
Fincantieri said the agreement reinforces its role within the programme. The company continues to position itself as a key partner in the development and upgrade of advanced naval platforms aligned with Italian Navy requirements.
