The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) have taken a significant step in advancing battlefield capabilities with the acquisition of a new 120mm modular mortar system from Finnish defence company Patria. The pre-series of the mortar system, officially named the Patria TREMOS, is scheduled for delivery to the Finnish Army in 2025, following a swift agreement facilitated by the Finnish Defence Forces’ Logistics Command. On the same day as the acquisition announcement, Patria introduced the new Patria TREMOS mortar system to an international audience at the Future Mortar Systems conference in London on October 29, 2024.

Patria has signed a bill of sale for the acquisition of the entire share capital of Nordic Drones Oy, a Finnish leading drone pilot trainer and manufacturer of drones designed for professional use. Nordic Drones has designed and delivered complete solutions and user training for various technical aerial photography as well as mapping, measurement, inspection, control and authority tasks for the needs of more than 100 companies and organizations. The company employs 10 people and is located in Muurame, Finland. The parties do not disclose the value of the acquisition.

The Finnish Defence Forces purchase Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles as a part of the multinational Finland-led CAVS (Common Armoured Vehicle Systems) programme that also features Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. Patria signed the agreement for 91 vehicles with the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command. In addition to the vehicles, the purchase also includes spare parts, tools as well as operation and maintenance training, in addition to a purchase option for 70 vehicles. Deliveries of the vehicles will begin during 2023.
