TKMS Chief Executive Oliver Burkhard said the naval shipbuilder expects to sustain profitable growth and expand internationally after increases in revenue, profitability and its order backlog. His comments come as the company negotiates submarine business in India and pursues further frigate programmes in Germany and Brazil.

“Both our record order backlog and our revenue and profitability have risen significantly since going public,” Burkhard said. “We expect this trend to continue: We aim to grow profitably in the future, remain a technology leader, and expand our national and international presence.”

The company reported significant growth in revenue and adjusted earnings before interest and tax during the first nine months of its current financial year. It attributed the improvement to project progress and stronger operational performance, with backlog standing at a record €20.1 billion at the end of June.

German orders and overseas opportunities

TKMS signed a contract in July for four MEKO A-200 DEU-class frigates, with an option for four more. The Bundestag’s Budget Committee approved procurement of four additional vessels in October to strengthen the German Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

The company also said it had been selected as preferred supplier for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, which envisages up to 12 boats. It is separately in final contract negotiations with India for six submarines, with an option for three more.

In Brazil, TKMS signed a memorandum of understanding in April with the defence ministry and local partners covering four additional Tamandaré-class frigates. A majority-owned joint venture is also the sole bidder in Germany’s selection process for the future F127 air defence frigate.

These prospective programmes remain distinct from the company’s existing order book. The Indian negotiations, Brazilian memorandum and German bidding process have not yet been presented as completed construction contracts.

Capital market presence

Burkhard made his remarks after TKMS received the “Outstanding Initial Public Offering” award at IPO Night 2026 in Frankfurt. The event was organised by Deutsche Börse in collaboration with the Weimer Media Group.

TKMS listed in October 2025 and joined the MDAX a few weeks later. The company said independence and direct access to capital markets had created new opportunities for its development.

The group employs more than 10,200 people, including temporary workers, and operates shipyards in Kiel, Wismar and Itajaí, Brazil. Its activities include submarines, surface vessels, maritime electronics and security technologies.
