The B-52 began the U.S. aerial presence, showing the longevity of the long-range strike platform. Assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base and temporarily deployed to MorĂłn Air Base in Spain, the aircraft demonstrated the continued relevance of the BUFF.
The bomber rotation is intended to develop joint warfighting skills and reinforce cooperation with allies. Its appearance at the airshow underlined America’s support for partners and its focus on deterring potential threats.
Crowds then turned to the F-35 Lightning II, operated by the demonstration team from the 388th Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base. The fifth-generation fighter’s speed and performance secured its place as the standout attraction of the day.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon followed with a display by the 20th Fighter Wing from Shaw Air Force Base. Maj. Taylor “FEMA” Hiester demonstrated the aircraft’s manoeuvrability with high G turns and extended afterburner use.
The F-16 remains in production and is widely used through U.S. foreign military sales. Eight partners in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility operate the aircraft, supporting shared capability and interoperability.
The U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon concluded the American demonstrations, giving audiences a look at the maritime patrol platform derived from the Boeing 737. Although similar in appearance to a commercial airliner, it is equipped to detect, track and if required strike targets at sea.
The aircraft’s range and onboard systems enable long-duration surveillance missions to promote security in international waters. The Poseidon is already operated by eight allied nations committed to maintaining open access to the seas.
Air Force leaders stressed that the demonstrations carried a broader message beyond technical skill. “Our presence at Dubai is more than just an air show,” said Lt. Gen. Derek France, 9th Air Force (Air Forces Central) commander. “We are showcasing our professionalism, training and lethality on a world stage in plain view. The message we are sending is clear, peace through strength. We along with our partners are committed to regional stability, and we are equipped, trained and ready to sustain stability and reinforce security.”
