According to the ministry, the United States handed over a total of 36 Abrams main battle tanks to Poland in June this year. The newly delivered vehicles will be operated by the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade, which is tasked with defending the Polish capital against potential threats from the east.
The United States is supplying M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks to Poland under a government-to-government agreement for 250 vehicles. The agreement was signed in 2022, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Poland’s defense ministry said the United States has already delivered 182 M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks to the country. In addition, the Polish Land Forces already operate 116 M1A1FEP tanks that were delivered earlier.
The Polish government expects deliveries of the remaining 68 M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks to be completed by the end of the year. The deliveries are part of Poland’s wider effort to strengthen its armored forces.
