U.S. Marine Corps demonstrates HIMARS mobility and firepower during BALTOPS 25 exercise

By Defence Industry Europe

U.S. Marines from Fox Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, conducted live rocket fire missions using the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) in Poland in support of exercise Baltic Operations 2025 (BALTOPS 25). The operation formed part of a wider effort to strengthen combined response capabilities crucial to ensuring freedom of navigation and security in the Baltic Sea.

As part of the exercise, the HIMARS system was also loaded onto a U.S. Marine Corps C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft to conduct a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System Rapid Infiltration (HIRAIN) in Klaipeda, Lithuania. This demonstrated the unit’s ability to rapidly deploy precision firepower in cooperation with NATO partners.

Additionally, simulated fire missions were carried out in Poland to enhance the integration and coordination of joint forces during the training. These activities are central to BALTOPS 25’s aim of improving multinational readiness and interoperability.

BALTOPS 25 is a multinational maritime exercise designed to develop U.S. and NATO operational capacity and capability through combined training. It also strengthens Allied and partner cohesion, deters regional threats, and upholds strategic relationships.

Described by organisers as “the premier maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region,” BALTOPS 25 supports NATO’s operational access and contributes to maintaining global freedom of action. It provides a unique platform for forces to rehearse cooperative defence measures in a strategically important area.
