Combat Logistics Battalion 6 will lead the US contribution as Marines rehearse contested logistics concepts that support NATO operations and deterrence. Forces from Sweden and Estonia will also participate alongside Finland and the United States.
U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe Commander, Maj. Gen. Daniel Shipley said the exercise reflects Finland’s leadership within NATO since joining the Alliance. “The U.S. Marine Corps is committed to enabling Finland’s defense capabilities and enhancing its role as a key contributor to regional security and NATO,” Shipley said. “By collaborating with Finland, we are building a more comprehensive understanding of the maritime environment. This enhances our collective ability to maintain sea control and deter potential threats in the Baltic.”
The exercise will include platoon-level live-fire training, an amphibious assault, maritime strikes and aviation sorties to strengthen interoperability between Finland’s Navy and US forces. Marines employing Stand-in-Forces concepts from Marine Corps Force Design will operate forward alongside Finland’s Navy and other NATO participants.
Exercise Freezing Winds 25 forms part of a regular series of northern European drills that demonstrate the ability to deploy and train Marines and Sailors in support of the NATO Alliance.
