By Defence Industry Europe

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has been awarded a substantial contract by the U.S. Navy valued at up to $808.6 million. The agreement encompasses the production of MK 54 MOD 1 Lightweight Torpedo Kits, alongside associated test equipment, spares, provisioned items, and engineering and hardware support.

The work will be carried out in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and is scheduled for completion by December 2032. The contract is structured with various pricing mechanisms, including fixed-price-incentive, firm-fixed-price, and cost-plus-fixed-fee components.

Laura Hooks, Vice President and General Manager of Maritime and Strategic Systems at GDMS, highlighted the significance of the deal. She noted that it would ensure U.S. and allied naval forces maintain access to cutting-edge torpedo technology for years to come.
