U.S. Space Force declares L3Harris’ ATLAS system operational to boost space domain awareness

By Defence Industry Europe

The U.S. Space Force has officially accepted the Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System (ATLAS), developed by American defence firm L3Harris Technologies, for operational use. The decision marks a significant step forward in enhancing space domain awareness and strengthening the country’s ability to respond to anti-satellite threats.

ATLAS combines space domain awareness, command and control, intelligence, and operational data to support rapid and informed decision-making in orbit. According to L3Harris, the system is designed to deliver timely, accurate and relevant information essential for avoiding operational surprises.

“This pivotal milestone aligns with Chief of Space Operations Gen. B. Chance Saltzman’s top priorities at the Space Force to help ensure space superiority, an essential element of our country’s national security,” said Ed Zoiss, President, Space and Airborne Systems, L3Harris. “The Space Force requires timely, accurate and relevant information to avoid operational surprise, and ATLAS meets this demand by providing essential and actionable space domain awareness.”

Earlier this year, L3Harris was selected to continue enhancing ATLAS by developing and integrating new tools, including upgrades to improve satellite and space debris tracking. The company has long supported the US space superiority mission, contributing to the protection of space assets and improved readiness for military operations.
