To support the expedited timeline, the US Congress is expected to allocate $50 million towards the programme. The funding aims to ensure timely integration of the advanced missile system into the Army’s arsenal.
The PrSM Inc 2 will complement the currently produced PrSM Increment 1 missiles, which are successors to the ageing ATACMS system. Unlike the Inc 1, which targets fixed positions, the new version will be capable of striking both stationary and moving targets.
Equipped with a multi-mode seeker, PrSM Inc 2 is designed to engage mobile land targets as well as naval vessels with high precision. This capability represents a significant enhancement in the US Army’s long-range strike options.
Meanwhile, development is ongoing for further iterations of the missile. The PrSM Increment 3 is planned to feature a heavier warhead, while Increments 4 and 5 are expected to extend the missile’s range to over 1,000 kilometres.
