Ukraine has launched a large-scale military project, ‘Drone Line,’ to enhance the effectiveness of its unmanned aerial systems. Initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the initiative aims to create specialised drone units and share their combat expertise across the country’s Defence Forces.

The project will establish a network of dedicated units equipped with modern technology and necessary resources. Both military personnel and civilian specialists are encouraged to take part, expanding Ukraine’s pool of trained drone operators and engineers.

Defence Minister Rustem Umerov highlighted the importance of the initiative in shaping modern warfare strategies. He stated that the project will create a “kill zone” of 10-15 km, providing air support to infantry and making enemy advances significantly more difficult.

To support the programme, the Ministry of Defence has allocated an additional UAH 4.6 billion in funding. These resources will be used to acquire UAVs, electronic warfare systems, vehicles, and other essential equipment to enhance combat operations.

Several leading drone-operating units within the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including RAROG, K-2, PHOENIX, ACHILLES, and MADYAR’S BIRDS, are already participating in the initiative. Individuals interested in joining can apply via the official website droneline.army.gov.ua or through the hotline 0 800 301 314.

Applications are also accepted through the Diia and Army+ apps, ensuring an accessible recruitment process. Candidates must complete an interview and testing phase, while military personnel have the option to transfer from their current positions.

Recruits will undergo comprehensive training, including Basic General Military Training (BGMT) with a focus on tactical combat skills and UAV operations. The programme will also include training on countering enemy drones, an increasingly vital aspect of modern warfare.
