According to the DSCA, the proposed sale will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the defence of a NATO ally that contributes to political stability and economic progress in Europe. It will also enhance Finland’s capability to counter current and future threats while improving interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.
Finland already operates AMRAAMs within its armed forces and is expected to integrate the new systems without difficulty, the agency noted. The DSCA added that the sale “will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
The principal contractor for the programme will be RTX Corporation, based in Arlington, Virginia.
