The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, remains ready for full mission tasking in support of national objectives. Officials said the vessel is prepared to operate in any assigned area of responsibility.
During the port visit, Rear Adm. Paul Lanzilotta, commander of Carrier Strike Group 12, and other strike group leaders met with U.S. Ambassador to Croatia Nicole McGraw. The discussions focused on the group’s deployment and continued mission readiness.
The ship’s crew participated in shore activities, including tours and events organised through the Morale, Welfare and Recreation programme. The visit also included scheduled maintenance and resupply to sustain ongoing operations.
The Navy said a routine investigation into a fire involving the ship’s laundry and berthing areas remains ongoing. No additional details were provided in the statement.
USS Gerald R. Ford deployed from Naval Station Norfolk on June 24, 2025, and has conducted operations across multiple regions. These include the Arctic Circle, Mediterranean, Caribbean and Red Sea.
The Carrier Strike Group has supported joint and combined operations during its deployment. The Navy said these activities demonstrate its operational capability and adaptability.
Carrier Strike Group 12 includes USS Gerald R. Ford, Carrier Air Wing 8, Destroyer Squadron Two and the guided missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81). The group is currently operating in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
The Navy said the strike group serves as a key instrument of national power. Its mission includes deterring aggression, supporting economic stability and maintaining freedom of navigation.
