REDARC Defence & Space has announced a manufacturing partnership with Hanwha Defence Australia to deliver key electronic components for the Australian Army’s Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The work is part of the Department of Defence’s LAND 400 Phase 3 programme.

The agreement covers production of components for 129 Redback IFVs. The programme represents one of the most significant modernisation efforts for the Australian Army.

REDARC will manufacture a suite of electrical and control units under a build-to-print arrangement. These systems are designed to support the vehicle’s operation, mobility and communications capabilities.

Officials said the components form the electronic backbone of the Redback IFV. They manage power distribution and signal routing within the platform.

The systems are being produced at REDARC’s facility in South Australia. The company said the work supports domestic manufacturing and strengthens sovereign industrial capability.

Scott Begbie said: “We are incredibly proud to partner with Hanwha Defence Australia on the LAND 400 Phase 3 project.” He added: “Manufacturing these highly complex power and control units right here in South Australia is a testament to the skill and capability of our local workforce.”

He continued: “This collaboration not only supports the Australian Army with world-class technology but also strengthens our sovereign industrial base.” The company said it is committed to delivering locally built and supported systems for defence applications.

The Redback IFV is designed to enhance protection, mobility and firepower for the Australian Army. It is intended to operate alongside the Abrams tank fleet as part of a combined arms capability.

Ben Hudson said: “Partnering with highly capable Australian businesses like REDARC Defence & Space is a cornerstone of our strategy to deliver the Redback IFV.” He added: “REDARC’s proven track record in ruggedised, high-quality electronic manufacturing makes them an ideal partner to ensure the Australian Army receives the best possible equipment, built and supported locally.”

Chris Picton said: “South Australia’s highly skilled defence industry has a strong reputation for providing critical support to the Australian Defence Force.” He added: “This partnership between REDARC and Hanwha is another example of our local industry contributing to national Defence priorities while creating high value jobs for South Australians.”

Officials said the partnership highlights the role of local industry in delivering advanced defence capabilities. The programme is expected to support both operational readiness and economic development within Australia’s defence sector.
